This Master was painted by Johannes Vermeer around the year 1665 and is currently displayed in the Mauritshuis in The Hague, The Netherlands. The work was not meant to be a portrait, but a ‘tronie’, representing a character in exotic clothing, with a turban and an unusually large pearl earring. It is unknown who the girl on the painting is. Until 1995 the painting was also known as ‘The girl with the turban’.
